FREE AI Training for Your Remote Team
By Karla Booth
Your VA is probably already using AI. The question is whether they’re using it well, or just pasting your client’s data into ChatGPT and hoping for the best.
As a leader of one of the best outsourcing companies in the Philippines and Latin America, this is what I know: most remote teams are running on AI skills they taught themselves from a TikTok. And that gap between “kind of knows AI” and “actually fluent” is costing you speed, quality, and sometimes your reputation.
So today I’m handing you something that solves that—for FREE.
I went out and hand-picked the best free AI courses and trainings on the internet. Not the sketchy “make $10k in your sleep” garbage. I’m talking about the real ones—built and taught by the actual companies making this technology. Microsoft. Google. OpenAI. Anthropic, the team behind Claude.
These are the same names your competitors are learning from, except most business owners have no idea these trainings exist, let alone that they’re completely free.
Here’s why this matters for you specifically: when you upskill your remote team, you’re not just checking a box. You’re turning a good assistant into a force multiplier—someone who can build systems, automate the busywork, and think three steps ahead instead of waiting on you for every decision.
So whether you’ve got one VA or a whole team, stick around. I’m going to walk you through each one, tell you exactly who it’s best for, and how to actually get your team to finish it—because a course nobody completes is just a bookmark.
Let’s get into it.
- Google AI Essentials – In my opinion, this is one of the best FREE AI COURSE for complete beginners. It’s about four hours and forty five minutes and it’s a very accessible entry point into AI education available today. It covers what Artificial Intelligence really is, how it works, responsible day-to-day use principles and practical applications across many industries. Available on Coursera. There is an option to pay $49 for a certificate (as of this writing.
Note: If you have been using ChatGPT or Claude daily for a few months now, most of the content will feel familiar. The certificate also only proves you completed a course, not tha you applied it in a real workflow.
- Anthropic Courses on Skilljar – Anthropic – Claude 101, Cowork, Code, and AI fluency, AI for small businesses. Best if you use Claude everyday. One thing to note, a pre-requisite for taking these courses is a Pro/ Max plan.
It’s so worth it, enroll your team here if you use Claude on a day-to-day basis. Even just learning the basics of Claude Cowork changed a lot for my own operations team! - Elements of AI (University of Helsinki + MinnaLearn) — the certificate is issued by the University of Helsinki, which gives it academic legitimacy, and over 1 million students have completed it globally.
It’s around 30 hours, certificate completely free. The most credible free-and-actually-free credential out there. Conceptual and ethics-heavy, not hands-on. Takes you from intro, problem solving, real world AI, machine learning, neural networks, closing with implications and some predictions of the future. A lot of old-school corporate friends of mine recommend this course. - LangChain Academy — After poring through a few options, this appeared to be the cleanest no-cost pick for agent builders; courses are listed as free and issue certificates of completion for things like Introduction to LangGraph and Agent Observability and Evaluations. Technical, but this is where agentic workflows actually live. Paid certificates are also available, and they have instructors from reputable institutions like IBM. The shortes course is around nine hours, feel free to learn at your own pace.
- Microsoft Applied Skills — These are scenario-based micro-credentials proving you can complete specific job tasks through interactive lab-based assessments. Free during official challenge windows; the 2026 AI Challenge window ran January 20 to March 2, so check Microsoft Learn for the current one. Of course this one has a huge name behind it so it would be a great place to learn as well.
- OpenAI Academy — currently free prompt packs, tutorials, and resources, with certifications announced but piloting. Worth watching; not yet a credential. I personally love the different paths they give you. Some samples: building websites, Codex for creative building, applied AI workflows for legal aid, and creating high quality presentations.
Since ChatGPT is most people’s entry to AI, this is a great opportunity to go deeper. Assign to a newbie Virtual Assistant, or to a high level Client Success Manager. They will appreciate it.
The best advice in this whole space: don’t chase random AI certificates. Pick the credential tied to the platform you actually use, then build one project with it.As someone who owns an online business, or looking to hire remote marketing and management talent for your team, make sure that you know how your team is applying the lessons they learned, and how operations in your company actually get transformed.
